So

Spring is around the corner , it's
time to put away your sweaters and
winter coat . With the warmer weather
, perhaps show a little skin with a sexy tank top or
a cute cocktail dress. Aunty Anita , is planning to
lose another dress size as part of my spring agenda.
I am sure some may able to relate.....so let's get
more active with our lifestyle & watch what we eat .
Be sure to have checkup with your Doctor prior to starting
diet or exercise program. Remember without good health
you have nothing.
We must also never stop Remembering
Our Dead. Let us not forget, many transgender
people have been killed for their identities -- just
for being who they are!
Volunteering Begins and Ends
with One Person — You!
When you volunteer , you help:
educate the public about
critical issues,
mobilize your community
to take action,
expand the voice and visibility
of the GLBT community,
help to change hearts and
minds, and
bolster a nationwide effort
to end hate and discrimination
Remember to Spread
the Aloha In Your World. Embrace the
Goddess Within You, Be good to yourself!

News, Letters and Comments
THE GLADES PROJECT
Three years of hard work are coming to fruition for
Hawai’i’s Hula Girl Productions and director / producer Connie
M. Florez as shooting for a documentary film entitled The Glades
Project gets underway. The project is an exploration of a period
of Honolulu’s diverse history where no comprehensive research work
has ever been done before. The Glades nightclub, located at 152 N.
Hotel Street and operating from the 1960s into the early 80s, served
as a gathering place for the local Mahus /
transgendered community. The Glades Project is an ongoing
research of The Glades and the people who frequented it, performer
and patron alike, and will result in not only an hour-long documentary,
but also in the creation of many research resources. Fragile historical
16mm news reels are being preserved; original still photos and news
articles are being digitized. Living histories are being recorded
through extensive interviews. The publication of a comprehensive
multi-media web site will bring together an archive all of these materials
for public use.
The production team is taking a road trip through
New York, California and Nevada and is looking for people to
share their stories about TheGlades. We will be in New York June
7 – 13, San Francisco June 15 – 30, Southern California July 1
– 14, and Las Vegas July 15 – 20. We are looking for people connected
to The Glades in any capacity – as entertainers, as audience members,
as people familiar with the Honolulu Hotel Street scene during the
1960s, 70s and early 80s.
The Glades Project is a collaborative effort in
preservation. It is with the help of the community’s in kind
contributions and the support that we are moving forward. The
Glades Project’s 501 (c) 3 Fiscal sponsor is THE CENTER, located
at 2424 S. Beretania St., Honolulu, HI. Funding has been received
through the following resources: Pacific Islanders in Communications
(A PBS Minority Consortia) has awarded Research and Development
funding; in December of 2004, the Funding
Exchange awarded The Glades Project as a recipient
of the Paul Robeson Media Fund for Pre-Production, including the
Hawai’i People’s Fund. Additional funding sources are being sought
during all phases of film production.
The Glades Project has been and will continue researching
for the next year. There is also a need for photographs, commemorative
items, printed materials such as newspaper articles, wardrobe
from the shows, and film of The Glades and Downtown Honolulu
from this time.
The Glades Project team can be contacted by email
at info@TheGladesProject.com,
or by phone at 808-782-5610, or via mail at THE GLADES PROJECT,
P.O. Box 11884, Honolulu, HI 96828.

nightclub, especially employees or performers
from 1960's and 1970s.
2.
People who worked the streets, in other clubs or a place called
the TIN TIN NOODLE SHOP near chinatown.
3.
Anyone who may may have photos or memorabilia from that time.

standard release form.
Aloha my sisters,

This is Nalani from Chicago, I am sorry to say our sister Joann Ahni who
hails from Nanakuli passed away this morning at 3:10. Tita went into
cardiac arrest the doctors informed us that she would not make it through
the night. Her was brain was no longer functioning. Since
we were her contacts and she had no family here, Nichol and myself
made the decision not to take any extraordinary measures to continue her
life..........The doctors advised us that it would be easier and more humane
to let her go gently into the night.
Tita and I went to the hospital today to see Joann in the Morgue and
make the necessary arrangements. In keeping with our sisters wishes,
Joann's body will be donated to science.
A picture of the 3 of us at our annual New Years Eve Party.
We will miss our sister. Nichol, Joanne and myself were the 3 tita's living
out here in Chicago and we were
Ohana. Joann
never talked about her family, so we are not sure who to contact, however,
we will be posting a death notice in the the Honolulu Advertiser and Star
Bullentin, hopefully her family will see it and read it.

Ms. Gay USA in Dallas, Texas
Aloha everyone,
Well here I am in Dallas, Texas attending the week long Ms. Gay USA competition.
As a spectator, I'm somewhat impressed with what is being presented. Last
Night I was sorta tantalized by evening gown and talent. Roxy Marqui's Talent
was hot, as she did a medley of Ms. Harajuku herself, Gwen Steffani. As for
Talent, Janet Andrews ( Erica Andrews' daughter) was not bad as she did Beyonce.
Wednesday night there is a break from the pageant, and me and the
girls go have our straight night out in town. Layla Larue is soooooooooo
amazingg when it comes to performing.
I hope Hawaii decides to have a Gay USA prelim. It would be well worth it.
Tonight is Gown for Nina my new roommate and baby, so I am hoping that her
gown will kick but big time. Thursday night is talent for Nina and the last
night of prelims before final night on Friday. I am hoping that she kicks
butt enough to make it into top twelve.
Peace out and have a lovely week. Aloha Everyone.
Erika
ps I forgot to mention that Armani looked gorgeous in her red evening gown.

Aloha,
I'm in the process of developing and creating student
scholarship to help gay students in their process
of education. Any ideas, suggestions or comments would
be greatly appreciated. if you know who's more in need and why,
please email me.
I want to make sure that everything that
i can accomplish as a person and as a human being has a
meaning and a worth behind it and if this is another way i can help
to endorse, support and encourage someone's life, then my life
is serving a more meaningful purpose. I already have the legal
part that will be drafted as soon as i get more ideas etc...
This is all happening because no matter what,
my life has been blessed and i have the opportunity of sharing
those blessings.
It'll take 2-3 months to finalize details, but
meanwhile all suggestions etc...are welcome so i can have
a better view of what needs to be done.
When finalized, it will be promoted in our magazines
and here on "myspace". if things continue as planned we should
be done before the ending of summer.
Hope to hear from all of you, for those interested
email me here or contact me as you all know how.

Well I finally did it. I finally graduated. Thank God, I didn't think
I could make it these past few weeks. An yways I'm really feeling melancholy.
Don't know how to really react to this yet except to finally exhale.
It was a very long ceremony, but an amazing Luau. I'd like to thank
my parents for traveling miles to see me, Selena and Phoebe for representing
Hawaii and brining the most delicious Kalua Pig and for keeping their
promise to visit. It was a pleasure kiking with them. My friends here
in Winona, and my new roomate in Minneapolis and Bill for traveling 2
hrs south to fall asleep at my ceremony. It was very amazing.
I just got back from NYC where I spent a good 4 days 3 nights painting
the town with my parents. It was so awesome to see Viveeane, Bianca, Chady
boy, Franky, and Mahi my baby. I miss the city and can't wait to move
there one day.
As for the present? Who knows. I know this, Im packing my crap to move
to Minneapolis, then off to Texas for the Ms. Gay USA pageant for a week.
Looking for a job, and hopefully start paying off my student loans. Donations
are welcomed. LOL
Anyways hope everyone have been having an equally fabulous time.
